Williams Bringing Aero Update to Silverstone
Williams Racing will bring an updated aero package to the Formula 1 British Grand Prix, to be run on Alexander Albon’s car.
Head of Vehicle Performance Dave Robson indicated that the revisions were to the bodywork and floor area with the intention “to efficiently increased the downforce of the car.”
Robson said the team were “looking to get as much learning done this weekend as possible” as the next round in Austria is a Sprint Race event.
Drivers Albon, who is half British, and Canadian Nicholas Latifi said they were both looking forward to the team’s home event.
“It’s a special circuit made better by all the fans who come out to show their support,” said Anglo-Thai Albon.
Latifi, who turned 27 ahead of the Grand Prix weekend, said he is excited to head to one of his “favourite tracks on the F1 calendar,” adding that “Silverstone is an incredible circuit, especially with the huge turnout from the fans and the atmosphere they create.”
Williams have won eight times at Silverstone, though not since Jacques Villeneuve in 1997, but Latifi said he hoped for a “solid” weekend, while Albon said driving the 2022 cars around the circuit would be “pretty fun”.
Albon has two points finishes from his three Formula 1 Grand Prix on the circuit, both in 2020 with Red Bull while Latifi has a best finish of 14th from three races in Northamptonshire.
