Who Is Williams Rookie Logan Sargeant?
Logan Sargeant, was revealed as Williams‘ preferred replacement for Nicholas Latifi at the United States GP last month, but the move was depending on him earning enough super licence points.
Sargeant, a Williams junior driver has taken part in several F1 practice sessions this season, will therefore team up with Alex Albon at the Grove-based team next year
Where is Logan Sargeant from?
Sargeant was born on December 31st 2000, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States.
This makes Sargeant the first US driver on the grid since Alexander Rossi in 2015.
Does Logan Sargeant have a Super Licence?
Yes. By finishing fifth in F2’s season-ending Abu Dhabi feature race Sargeant clinched fourth in the championship with 148 points, enough to take him over the 40-point requirement of the Super Licence.
How Did Sargeant Win Rookie of the Season?
Logan’s 2022 season has been an impressive one for the Rookie American.
Sargeant started his podium successes with a Sprint Race P3 in Spain, then added a second place at his first-ever race weekend at the Baku City Circuit.
One round later at Silverstone the home of his first Formula 3 win, Sargeant was the class of the field in Qualifying, topping the timesheets throughout to take a maiden F2 pole position.
That impressive performance followed through to the race as Logan didn’t put a foot wrong to lead from start to finish claiming his first win in Formula 2.
Sargeant wasn’t done there, winning again just seven days later in Austria. After dropping to P14 after pitting, the American stormed through the field to eventually finish 3rd, only for penalties to be applied to the two immediately ahead of him, giving Logan another Feature Race victory.
In perhaps the biggest moment of his career, with the eyes of the motorsport world on him at the season finale in Abu Dhabi, Logan Sargeant would deliver two mature drives in both races to not only lock in his status as Rookie of the Season, but also deliver him enough Super Licence points for a full-time drive in Formula One with Williams Racing.
Logan Sargeant Talks Williams and F1 Debut
“It’s a huge honour and a dream come true to be given this opportunity to compete in Formula One with Williams,” said Sargeant.
“A massive thank you to every person at Williams Racing and Dorilton Motor Sports for the support they’ve given me since the day I first joined the team as an academy driver at the 2021 United States Grand Prix.”
“Being a part of the Williams driver academy for the past year has given me an important platform to develop and prepare me for this next chapter.
“I’m ready and excited to be a part of this journey as the team looks to progress up the grid.
“I feel like I’ve put in as much work as anyone else to reach this point and I just have to prepare the best I possibly can to be the best driver I can possibly be next year. Hopefully, that’s good enough to stay in F1 for a long time.”
