F2 Miami Wrap; Tsolov Sprint stunner, Minì beats Beganovic in fine Feature

Sprint stunner for Tsolov

It was a second win of the season for Nikola Tsolov in a thrilling opener to the Miami weekend for F2.

The Campos driver and standings leader converted reverse-grid pole, staying ahead of Laurens van Hoepen, who started second, eventually beating the Dutchman by the fine margin of 0.170 seconds.

Also in the fight at the end was Alex Dunne, who charged up the field from seventh but had to settle for third at the chequered flag.

A poor start from Oliver Goethe saw him plummet from third on the grid to ninth by the end of the first lap, while Joshua Duerksen initially mounted a challenge on van Hoepen, only to be bested by Dunne.

Fine margins again as Minì beats Beganovic

The Feature Race on Sunday again produced fine margins, with just under a second covering race winner Gabriele Minì from Dino Beganovic, while Rafael Câmara in the Invicta was also in contention during the closing laps.

Proceedings began under the Safety Car, with multiple formation laps prior to a standing start, with Kush Maini leading the field from pole position.

Sprint winner Tsolov was involved in an incident with Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak at Turn 1, with the Thai driver receiving a 10-second penalty as a result. The Safety Car was also deployed.

Martinius Stenshorne was also penalised for a starting procedure infringement before heading to the grid.

The time-certain race was impacted by another Safety Car when Dunne found the barriers on Lap 8 while chasing Minì, before a third Safety Car came out following contact between Nico Varrone and Stenshorne, which took the Norwegian out of the race.

Herta on home soil

Former IndyCar driver turned F1 hopeful Colton Herta starred at the start of the weekend by topping Free Practice with a 1:40.320.

It was the first session the 26-year-old had topped since making his F2 debut this year for the Hitech team.

Herta only qualified 14th, however, though he picked up points again in the Feature Race, as he did during the Melbourne season opener, finishing eighth in the Safety Car-laden affair.

The Sprint saw the American driver finish one place lower than where he started, with the result dropping him to 13th in the standings on 10 points overall.

Tight at the top of the standings

A single point currently splits the top three in the championship, with Tsolov on 35 points ahead of Câmara and Minì.

Van Hoepen is only eight points behind the top three, having visited the podium twice in the four races contested so far in 2026.

Intriguingly, outside of his Feature Race win in Melbourne and Sprint win in Miami, Tsolov has failed to score in the other two races. Câmara has also claimed two podiums so far this season.

Minì has been the most consistent of the leaders, with his worst finish being eighth in the Melbourne Feature Race.

With the next round coming up soon in Montreal, it will be fascinating to see how the championship order continues to evolve throughout the season.

Campos leading the way

While Noel León has not featured prominently in the championship mix after the first two rounds, his contribution to Campos leading the teams’ standings has proven invaluable so far. Tsolov may have the two wins, but he has also failed to score in the other two races.

Of the top three teams, Campos has two wins to its name and therefore holds a six-point advantage over Invicta, with MP Motorsport a further 10 points behind.

Dürksen starred in the season-opening Sprint back in March with victory, while Minì found form with a sensational Feature Race win in Miami.
