Formula 1 has today announced that the FORMULA 1 GROSSER PREIS VON ÖSTERREICH will remain on the F1 calendar until 2027 inclusive following a new four-year agreement with the race promoter, Projekt Spielberg GmbH & Co KG.
In 2014, the Austrian Grand Prix was reinstated in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship, and since then, the Red Bull Ring has played host to numerous fans. In the 2022 event, the venue sold out and drew 303,000 supporters.
The last race under the current agreement will run from June 30 to July 2, 2023, and will mark the 10th anniversary of the Austrian Grand Prix’s reinstatement in the Formula 1 calendar. Additionally, the event will have an F1 Sprint for the second year in a row.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1
“The Austrian Grand Prix brings together the perfect mix of a challenging track, high-speed racing, and a beautiful venue for our fans, so I am delighted that we will be coming back to the Red Bull Ring until at least 2027 under this new agreement.
“As we celebrate the 10th year since our return to Spielberg, I would like to thank everyone involved in this renewal, especially the promoter and Red Bull and I want to pay tribute to Dietrich Mateschitz for the love, passion, and vision he brought to Formula 1 that has ensured the continued success of the event and the huge enthusiasm for our sport in Austria and around the world.”
Erich Wolf, General Manager of Projekt Spielberg GmbH & Co KG
“We are proud of the special partnership we have with Formula 1, and we are absolutely delighted to be welcoming the top class of motorsport to the Red Bull Ring for a further four years. In signing this contract extension, Formula 1 has made a strong commitment to Austria, Styria and the Murtal region.
“As we enter the tenth year of our partnership with Formula 1, we want to celebrate this milestone with all the great fans of the sport and to thank them for their loyalty and the tremendous atmosphere they help to generate. Everyone is invited to experience another great race weekend at Spielberg in 2023.”
After an absence of 11 years from the F1 itinerary, the Red Bull Ring returned in style in June 2014 and laid a solid foundation for the modern era of the Austrian Grand Prix.
Austrian Grand Prix – Key Takeaways
After an absence of 11 years from the F1 itinerary, the Red Bull Ring returned in style in June 2014 and laid a solid foundation for the modern era of the Austrian Grand Prix.
– The Red Bull Ring, which is situated in the Steiermark region, is the only Formula One circuit in the country and has a reputation as one of the highlights on the calendar, despite recent high-profile additions such as Las Vegas. The wall of colour created by the travelling ‘orange army’ of Max Verstappen fans is one of the most recognisable spectacles of the modern F1 calendar.
– Eleven Grands Prix have been staged at the Red Bull Ring so far, including two races in both 2020 and 2021. The venue has hosted many memorable moments involving star names of the motorsport world, as well as some key home wins for Oracle Red Bull Racing.
– The all-time leader in terms of F1 race wins in Austria is Verstappen on four (2018, 2019 and a double win in 2021) ahead of Alain Prost on three.
