Scuderia AlphaTauri are aiming to secure more points this weekend as Formula 1 heads to Mexico City for Round 19 of the 2022 season.
Yuki Tsunoda’s ninth place finish, following Fernando Alonso’s post-race penalty gave the Italian team two-points in their battle with Haas, although the American team finished ahead in eighth.
French driver Pierre Gasly felt the team failed to make the most of what he called “clear potential” on Sunday.
“In Austin, we weren’t able to convert the clear potential in the car into points on Sunday,” the 26-year-old said, adding: “In Mexico City we’ll try and reproduce the performance level of last year. We know how to be quick here so hopefully we can do well and chase after those points that I missed out on in America.”
In 2021, Gasly finished fourth, on a weekend where the AT02 excelled, however it might be tough to repeat that result in 2022.
Japanese driver Tsunoda, who ended a barren run stretching back to the Spanish Grand Prix in May, says his team must build on the points finish in America.
The 22-year-old said: “We need to have a good clean weekend, as we have to aim to score more points in the last three races of the year.
“I like the track especially the slow and tricky Sector 2 and (last year) I had fun with the car sliding around, which reminds me of karting!”
AlphaTauri are two-points behind rivals Haas in their battle for eighth place as they seek to avoid their worst finish in the Constructors’ standings since 2018.
