Was 2023 The Best Year For Alex Albon In F1?

Alex Albon will probably not have the sort of fame that has already made its way to other bigger stars of Formula 1, whether one speaks of Max Verstappen or Sir Lewis Hamilton. Put Fernando Alonso in that unquestionably big league too.

But that’s unless a lot changes and rather drastically so about the life of Alex Albon, who currently with his Williams F1 team, would wish to find himself a high performing machine in a bid to change his F1 fortunes.

The former Red Bull driver, who lest it is forgotten, had been paired alongside none other than Max Verstappen himself, endured what was clearly a tough time before he made his way out and eventually, left F1, only to return.

But when he returned, Alex Albon made sure that he made it count. Which is why some of the drives he held with Williams in this recent 2023 season found a lot of appreciation about pure racing fans. With a best result of P7 earned at Canada, a drive with finesse and speed, Alex Albon would find similar success at tracks like Monza, home to the Italian Grand Prix.

Even his valiant P8 at the Silverstone-bound British Grand Prix was a fine effort and yet again, the best result back then from either of the two Williams drivers.

On the whole, Albon finished inside points on six separate occasions out of 22 Grands Prix. This wasn’t an ordinary result for a driver who often suffered with a lack of grip and a car that wouldn’t hold onto this own in high downforce venues.

Yet, the 2023 performance, which led to an overall 13th position for the talented Alex Albon meant that he had a fine year.

He recently reflected on the bygone season and highlighted some happy memories stating in no uncertain terms what he enjoyed the most about it:

I am very proud of my performance. I’m not the most arrogant person, but I give myself credit for having had a very good season. It seemed to me that most of my races were not easy, there were races where we fought and fought again the whole time.”

That told, he also added the following:

But I like it. I feel like this is the environment I feel best in. For me, it was the best year in F1. The bond I have with the team has helped me a lot. It seems to me that this was the year that we were able to execute everything that we did so well.”
