Williams duo “super excited” as F1 heads to Spa

Williams drivers Alexander Albon and Nicholas Latifi are looking forward to racing at Spa Francorchamps this weekend, Round 14 of the 2022 FIA Formula 1 World Championship.

Canadian racer Latifi called the circuit “one of the most enjoyable tracks on the calendar”, with Anglo-Thai Albon describing the 7-kilometre track as “good for racing and fun over one lap”.

Albon, 26, added: “(Spa) can also always throw surprises with the weather, as we saw last year!”

The 2021 race was scarcely worth the name of a “race” as heavy downpours delayed the start and condemned the cars to a handful of laps behind the Safety Car, before officials ended the race and declared a result, with half-points awarded.

Latifi is amongst many drivers who enjoy the challenge that Spa provides.

“The circuit has a fast-flowing nature with an old school feel, so it’ll be nice to drive this modern generation of car around there,” the 27-year-old explained.

While 2022 has been a struggle for the Grove team, Latifi remained optimistic, saying: “Hopefully we can maximise any opportunities for a strong result, and it also seems like the weather might play a part as it typically can in Spa.”

Williams, the winners of nine Constructors and seven Drivers championships, are bottom of the table in 2022 with three points, all scored by Albon.
