Williams Driver Academy member Logan Sargeant makes his FIA Formula 1 debut in Texas this weekend, as the American takes Nicholas Latifi’s car for FP1 on Friday.

FIA Formula 2 Feature Race winner Sargeant could be in line for a full-time F1 seat if the session goes well.

“To be making my FP1 debut at COTA in my home country is a special moment for me,” the 21-year-old said, adding: “I’ve been spending a lot of time in the simulator at Grove and shadowing the team to help with my preparations for FP1.”

“I’m excited to jump in the car and make the most of the session!” Florida-born Sargeant concluded.

As for the main race drivers, Alexander Albon said: “It will be interesting to see how the bumps are this year with these new stiffer cars.”

Thai-driver Albon added that Austin’s Circuit of the America’s (COTA) is a “great” track as it has a “good flow”.

Outgoing driver Nicholas Latifi, who scored his first points of the season in Japan last time out said he is “super excited” to be returning to Austin, saying the track is “enjoyable” and hopes the surface is smoother following resurfacing works to accommodate motorcycle racing.

Williams are rock-bottom of the Constructors’ table in 2022 with eight points scored, needing a huge swing of fortune to catch AlphaTauri or Haas above them.
