Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas says this weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix, round 15 of the 2022 FIA Formula 1 season, is an “opportunity to recover straight away” after a DNF in Belgium.

Finnish driver Bottas saw his race at Spa-Francorchamps end on Lap 2 as he avoided Nicholas Latifi’s Williams and then found himself beached in a gravel trap.

“A new race week gives us the opportunity to recover straight away from an unfortunate weekend in Spa. We have the opportunity to build a strong performance for the weekend ahead, coming back with some points,” 33-year-old Bottas said.

After a highly impressive start to the season, Bottas’ results have dropped off in recent races, the Canadian Grand Prix the last time the ex-Mercedes driver came away from a race weekend with points.

It is the same story for Bottas’ Chinese team mate Zhou Guanyu, who has impressed in his rookie F1 campaign.

Zhou finished 14th in Spa and is hopeful of a return to the points in Zandvoort: “Our pace on track (in Belgium) was promising, so hopefully we can keep up with it in Zandvoort.

“The track will be relatively new to me: I previously raced here in F3 a few years ago, so it will be important to adapt to it in a Formula 1 car as quickly as possible.”

Alfa Romeo are still sixth in the Constructors Standings, 17-points ahead of Haas, with both teams enjoying a vastly improved 2022 compared to their 2021 seasons.
