Alfa Romeo Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur wants the Swiss team to build on the strong start to the season, beginning at the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend.

After two seasons running near the tail-end of the field, 2022 has seen a radical improvement from the team, with drivers Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu regularly challenging the top 10, something Vasseur wants to continue.

“Nine races in thirteen weeks will be a challenge for everyone in the team, but we are keen to finish the job we started,” said Vassaur, 54.

“Our July was tough, but our spirits are high and our approach remains the same: we are determined to turn the tide and place ourselves back where we belong, putting up a good challenge in the midfield and scoring important championship points.

“We will give it our very best and I’m confident we can do it this weekend already.”

Finnish driver Bottas, who has three podium appearances at Spa-Francorchamps, said he is looking forward to getting back to racing, adding: “I feel ready and motivated for the second half of the season. I quite enjoy racing in Spa: it’s a legendary track.”

Rookie team mate Zhou Gunayu made the podium on his last trip to Spa, when racing for UNI-Virtuosi in Formula 2, said: “I can’t come to Belgium without thinking of Anthoine Hubert: I’ll be racing for him as well this weekend.”

“Looking ahead, I’m entering the second half of my rookie season with confidence, looking forward to the challenges ahead: we haven’t added any points to our tally in the last races before the break, but I’m positive we have good chances to get back to it in Belgium.”

Alfa Romeo head to Belgium sixth in the Constructors Standings, having fallen away from the battle for fourth, and are aiming to keep the gap between themselves and the chasing Haas team building from the 17-point difference it currently is.
