What Date Is The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2026?
- The 2026 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is scheduled for 4-6 December, with the race on Sunday, closing out a 22-race season at Yas Marina Circuit as round 22.
- F1’s own president has said the date isn’t fully settled: a call on whether Abu Dhabi and Qatar can go ahead as planned is due by mid-September 2026, because of the same regional conflict that already cancelled the 2026 Bahrain and Saudi Arabian races.
- Yas Marina’s layout changed in 2021, cutting it from 21 corners to 16 and shortening the lap to 5.281km, though the older numbers still circulate widely online.
When Is The 2026 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix?
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is scheduled to run from Thursday, 4 December, through Sunday, 6 December 2026, with the race itself on the Sunday. As things currently stand, it’s the final round of the season, round 22 on a calendar that was trimmed from 24 races after the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix were cancelled earlier in the year. Qatar hosts the second-to-last round the weekend before, 27-29 November.
Could The Date Still Change?
That scheduled date comes with a real qualifier attached. Formula 1 president Stefano Domenicali said in mid-2026 that Qatar and Abu Dhabi remain “confirmed” for now, but acknowledged the situation tied to the wider Middle East conflict needed to be clearer before a final decision could be made, and set a deadline of mid-September 2026 for that call. If either race can’t go ahead, Domenicali said the season would close out in Europe instead, with Italy’s Imola circuit mentioned as a possible option, though not a confirmed one. Anyone planning travel around the December date should treat it as the current plan rather than a guarantee until that mid-September decision is made.
Yas Marina Circuit: What’s Different Since 2021?
The Yas Marina Circuit on Yas Island, designed by Hermann Tilke, has hosted the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix since 2009. Its layout changed significantly for 2021: the reconfiguration cut the corner count from 21 to 16 and shortened the lap to 5.281km, removing a chicane ahead of what’s now a genuine overtaking zone into Turn 6. Older figures citing 21 corners and a longer lap describe the pre-2021 track and are now out of date.
The circuit’s signature feature hasn’t changed. The race starts in daylight and finishes under floodlights as dusk falls, with the Yas Hotel straddling the track near the final corners, one of the more recognisable sightlines anywhere on the calendar. The current lap record, 1:25.637, was set by Kevin Magnussen during the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend, on the post-2021 layout.
How Much Do 2026 Tickets Cost?
Tickets for the 2026 event are on sale now, unlike previous years when this page was written before sales opened. General admission starts at AED 1,695, covering open viewing areas including the Abu Dhabi Hill zone. Four-day grandstand packages range from roughly AED 2,395 to AED 5,500 depending on location, and hospitality options run from North Yas Suite packages starting around AED 5,600 up to premium hospitality from AED 7,995 to over AED 16,995. As in past years, ticket packages include access to the Yasalam After-Race Concerts; acts confirmed for the Thursday opening night include Zara Larsson and Lewis Capaldi, with further lineup details for the rest of the weekend still to be announced at the time of writing.
How Do You Get To Yas Marina Circuit?
Abu Dhabi’s main airport was renamed Zayed International Airport on 9 February 2024, having previously operated as Abu Dhabi International Airport; it sits around 10 kilometres from the circuit. Taxis from the airport typically take 15-20 minutes depending on traffic, and shuttle services are usually laid on for race weekend from the airport and nearby hotels.
Fans staying in Dubai have a roughly 120-kilometre journey, about 1 to 1.5 hours by car depending on traffic. Dubai’s RTA-operated E100 intercity bus connects the two cities directly, alongside taxis and rental cars, and drivers should expect road closures and parking restrictions around Yas Island during the race weekend itself.
What Else Happens At Yas Marina Circuit?
Outside race week, Yas Marina hosts the Gulf 12 Hours endurance race and rounds of Ferrari Challenge Middle East, alongside Formula 2 support races during the Grand Prix weekend itself. The circuit’s pit and paddock facilities, including large team garages, a media centre and hospitality suites, stay in use across that broader calendar rather than sitting idle between Grands Prix.
