Lewis Hamilton Warns Against Rushing ‘F1’ Sequel After Historic Success

Lewis Hamilton has urged caution amid calls for a sequel to the new F1 movie, saying the film needs time to be celebrated properly before any future instalments are considered.

Speaking ahead of the British Grand Prix, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion and executive producer of the film said: “We literally just finished it, so I think the last thing we want right now is a sequel.”

Hamilton explained the intense time commitment required to bring the film to life. “It’s been four years in the making. It was a lot of work, particularly for [director Joseph Kosinski]. It’s time away from your family, it’s time away from your kids, and also you need this to just simmer for a while, you know. Like, let’s enjoy it.”

Apple’s F1—starring Brad Pitt as a veteran driver making a comeback—earned $55.6 million in its opening weekend in North America and $144 million worldwide, making it the tech giant’s most successful theatrical release to date.

Despite the strong performance, Hamilton insisted there should be no rush to capitalise on the momentum. “I think the worst thing we probably could do is to rush into doing a sequel. Most sequels are way worse, and so we don’t need to rush it. I think if we do do a sequel, I would say let’s really, really take our time in getting it even better.”

Hamilton also revealed how his Formula 1 mindset influenced the production, saying he’s now looking for a “debrief” in the same way a team would analyse a race. “Let’s review what we did, what we could have done better,” he said. “I don’t know if they ever do that in the movie business, but it’s something obviously I’ve learned from here.”
