Formule 1-banden beheren warmte tijdens een race via een combinatie van rubbercompoundontwerp, interne structuur en precieze drukregeling, waarbij ze optimale prestaties behouden tussen 90°C en 110°C terwijl ze snelheden boven de 300 km/u en krachten tot 5g doorstaan. Pirelli, de enige F1-bandenleverancier sinds 2011, ontwerpt deze 305/720-18 (voor) en 405/720-18 (achter) banden om warmte af te voeren via convectie, geleiding en materiaalkwaliteit, waarbij grip, duurzaamheid en slijtage in balans worden gehouden gedurende stints van 50-70 ronden.
