Formula 1 has locked in the future of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix at the Interlagos Circuit, announcing a five-year contract extension that will keep the Brazilian race on the calendar until 2035. The event last signed a five-year extension on the eve of the 2023 race, which took the race to 2030.
The contract extension reinforces F1’s long-term commitment to Brazil and ensures that one of its most historic venues will continue hosting races well into the next decade.
Formula 1 announced the news on Saturday to strengthen its presence in key international markets. Interlagos has remained a regular fixture on the calendar, with its challenging layout, passionate supporters, and unpredictable racing making it one of the most popular destinations among fans and drivers.
F1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali spoke about the extension, saying: “Brazil is an important part of Formula 1’s history and our future, and I am delighted that this five-year extension will see us continue racing in Sao Paulo until 2035.”
“The passion of our Brazilian fans is extraordinary, and every time we return to Interlagos we feel their energy in the grandstands and in the city of Sao Paulo. This agreement underlines our long-term commitment to Brazil. Together, we will build on this success and make the experience even better for our fans in the years ahead.”
Sao Paulo Grand Prix Has Delivered Major Economic Boost to Brazil

The five-year contract extension also reflects the financial benefits the event brings to Brazil. Sao Paulo mayor Ricardo Nunes highlighted the event’s contribution, saying it “boosts the economy, creates jobs, strengthens tourism and raises our city’s international profile.”
According to the organisers, last year’s edition of the Brazilian GP attracted 303,000 fans and generated an estimated economic impact of R$2.3 billion for the city. Those numbers underline the importance of the event beyond motorsport, making it a significant contributor to Sao Paulo’s tourism and hospitality industries.
The Brazil race has been on the F1 calendar since 1990 (with a return to Interlagos that year after previously racing there in the 1970s and 1980s).
Event CEO Expresses Pride After Signing an Extension
Sao Paulo GP event CEO Alan Adler also expressed his pride in securing the extension, crediting the partnership between F1, local authorities, and event organisers for the race’s continued growth.
“The extension of the contract of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix until 2035 is a source of immense pride, and represents recognition of work built on dedication, investment and a long-term vision,” Adler said.

Adler also thanked the FIA president, Formula 1, Nunes, and the Sao Paulo City Council for their continued support and investment in modernising Interlagos.
“This partnership has been fundamental to the growth and success of the event.”
Lando Norris has secured the pole position for the 2026 edition of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday. The newly crowned champion Kimi Antonelli will start on the front row.
