F1 Heads Back To USA For Las Vegas Grand Prix
Las Vegas plays host to Formula One later this month, with the latest Grand Prix set to be held in Paradise, Nevada. It will be the second edition of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, as the event was held for the first time in 2023, when Max Verstappen prevailed on the Las Vegas strip.
With the F1 season reaching its climax, the 2024 Las Vegas GP could have a big say on who lifts the Drivers’ Championship and Constructions’ Championship titles this year in the sport.
Verstappen Can Wrap Up Title in Las Vegas
The defending world champion can win the 2024 Drivers’ Championship in the Las Vegas GP. The Dutchman has a 62-point lead at the top of the F1 standings over Lando Norris, and if that lead remains at 60 points or more following the race in Nevada, he will defend his crown.
Last year’s world champion recently won the Brazilian Grand Prix, despite being 17th on the grid. He ended his Grand Prix drought which stretched back to the Spanish GP in June. It was a success which puts him on the cusp of a fourth world title.
Verstappen hit the lead with 16 laps to go in the 2023 Las Vegas GP and he converted that position to victory. He encountered a five second penalty due to a collision with Charles Leclerc, but it did not stop the Red Bull driver from picking up the checkered flag.
In the Las Vegas GP betting, Verstappen is +225 favorite to prevail again. There are promotions to see on DraftKings sportsbooks’ site that can give new customers up to $200 in bonus bets when using a promo code ahead of their F1 betting.
Leclerc Will Be Hoping to Complete US Double
Ferrari driver Leclerc was victorious the last time the F1 was in the US. He prevailed in the United States GP in Austin, Texas. The man from Monaco hit the front on the first lap, and he dominated the race from there.
It was an excellent weekend for Ferrari in Texas as they had the one-two on the podium, with Carlos Sainz finishing in second place. That result ensures that both Leclerc and Sainz are on course for a top five finish in the 2024 Drivers’ Championship.
One of the storylines of this year’s F1 season has been the growing rivalry between Verstappen and Norris, and it intensified in Austin. Norris passed Verstappen around the outside of the track at Turn 12, with four laps to go. That was deemed illegal, resulting in the British driver picking up a five second penalty, which cost him third place.
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton was also involved in an eventful incident in the United States GP. He spun off the track on the second lap, putting him out of the race. The 39-year-old, who is a six-time winner of the United States Grand Prix, will be hoping for better luck when he returns to the country in Nevada.
The 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix takes place on November 23, and it is the 22nd race on the F1 calendar this year.
