With the Formula One season finally underway for 2025, race fans are looking forward to another year of high-octane action. The season got off to a great start at the opening Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, where Lando Norris took first place for McLaren.

Finding new ways to get closer to the sport beyond just watching races is something that all avid F1 fans love to do. The most obvious example, of course, is taking time to check the latest F1 news online. This is great for staying in the loop with the latest results, stories and team news.

Another way to get involved is through F1 betting, where all the top-class sportsbooks carry the latest races to wager on. From backing a driver to win the next Grand Prix to predicting which team will win the Constructors’ Championship, betting on the sport adds more spice to following it.

For a refreshingly different way to bring more motorsports into your life, F1 Fantasy is the official fantasy game of Formula One. Launched in 2018 and played through the website or app, it enables fans to pick teams and drivers in order to win points during each race. With real-time data and real-life teams and drivers, players compete online in F1 Fantasy leagues.

F1 Fantasy rule changes in 2025

Although the basics of F1 Fantasy remain unchanged in 2025 (such as picking five drivers and two constructors for your team), there are some rule updates to know about. This keeps it in line with the real-life sport, where new F1 rules for 2025 have come into place.

Getting to know the most important F1 Fantasy updates for 2025 is essential for players. But what are the most crucial to take on board?

Transfers

If one of your drivers competes in the Sprint before a race but is then replaced before Grand Prix Qualifying, you’ll get a transfer hint, which helps avoid any Not Classified penalties. It’s worth nothing that this hint comes out of your overall transfer limit and you’ll attract a -10 penalty if you go over this limit.

Pitstops

Another key rule update for F1 Fantasy in 2025 involves pitstops. Each constructer now gets points for pitstops during a Grand Prix, but not in Sprints. The number of points awarded depends on their quickest pitstop during a race as below:

  • Under two seconds: 20 points
  • 2:00 to 2.19 seconds: 10 points
  • 2.20 to 2.49 seconds: 5 points
  • 2.50 to 2.99 seconds: 2 points

In addition, a five-point bonus goes to the constructer who achieves the quickest pitstop of the whole race. If a new world record for pitstops is set by a constructer in a race, a 15-point bonus is awarded.

Disqualification penalties

Any penalty points awarded for disqualification are now applied to the constructer and not the driver. Any driver who is disqualified does not get any points for the session from which they were withdrawn. This is different from the 2024 F1 Fantasy penalty for disqualification, which hit both the driver and constructer with a -25 point sanction. The penalty handed out to constructers for disqualifications in 2025 is -5 points in Qualifying and -20 in Sprints or the Grand Prix itself.

Price changes in 2025

From Charles Leclerc to Max Verstappen, drivers are at the heart of Formula One. 2024’s price change algorithm for drivers, though, led to massive price swings after each race. To fix this in 2025, F1 Fantasy is basing driver prices on the last three races, with the aim of stabilizing price swings and giving gamers greater confidence when playing F1 fantasy.

How can you handle rules changes in F1 Fantasy 2025?

Knowledge is power, so the best way is to simply read up on the updated guidelines for 2025 and be sure to understand them. Although this article is the perfect starting point, heading over to the official F1 Fantasy website or app to find out more is a good tip as well. By being fully conversant with any rule updates, you can be sure to avoid falling foul of them – and be in a position to use them to your advantage.

F1 Fantasy: big changes for 2025

As this article shows, F1 Fantasy has made some significant rule updates for the 2025 season. This has been done to make the game better to play and to answer any negative feedback from players after the 2024 season.

By tweaking how the game works, those behind it can offer players even more excitement. If you’ve never tried being your own F1 team boss and fancy giving it a go, why not sign up today? Although the 2025 season has already started, there’s still plenty of time left to get involved.
