Apple and Brad Pitt Eye Sequel to F1: The Movie

The chequered flag may have fallen on F1: The Movie, but the story of Sonny Hayes might not be over just yet. Following the film’s roaring success at the global box office, Apple CEO Tim Cook has confirmed that discussions are underway for a potential sequel to the blockbuster that redefined motorsport cinema.

A Groundbreaking Film for the Fast Lane

Released earlier this year, F1: The Movie was a landmark production not just for Hollywood, but for Formula 1 itself. Starring Brad Pitt as veteran racer Sonny Hayes and Damson Idris as rising star Joshua Pearce, the film immersed audiences in the high-octane world of the sport like never before.

Co-produced by seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, the film was shot amid real Formula 1 weekends, with the fictional APXGP team operating as an unofficial eleventh outfit in the paddock. The result was a cinematic experience that blurred the line between fiction and reality and became the most successful film launch of Pitt’s career.

“People Want to See More”

Speaking to Variety, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that the enthusiasm surrounding the film has sparked serious talk of a sequel.

“It’s definitely something that’s being talked about,” Cook said. “It’s been such a huge summer blockbuster for us. We’re so proud of it. The talent involved in that show are just next-level. And Brad did such a wonderful job acting it. We can’t wait to bring it to the service.”

F1: The Movie will be available for streaming on Apple TV+ from December 12, marking the next phase of its journey from the big screen to the small.

Brad Pitt: “I Had the Time of My Life”

For Brad Pitt, who not only starred in but helped shape the project, the experience was transformative. Portraying Sonny Hayes a retired driver returning to save a struggling Formula 1 team allowed Pitt to live out a lifelong fascination with racing.

“I had the time of my life,” Pitt told the Beyond the Grid podcast. “I’ve got to figure out a sequel. Even if I’ve aged out, still, I would love to see a sequel.”

His passion mirrors the film’s spirit a story about redemption, mentorship, and speed, told with the authenticity that only real racing could provide.

A Sequel on the Horizon?

While nothing has been officially confirmed, the appetite is clear. With Apple, Hamilton, and Pitt all expressing interest, and the film’s global success proving there’s an audience for more, the odds of F1: The Movie 2 hitting the grid seem increasingly strong.

If the first film captured the heart of Formula 1’s modern era, a sequel could explore its future faster cars, fiercer rivalries, and a sport forever racing forward.

For now, fans can only wait for the lights to go out once more. But if the buzz from Hollywood and the paddock is any indication, Sonny Hayes might not be done chasing glory just yet.
