The 2026 F1 Drivers’ Championship has a winner, but several important battles remain to be decided. Kimi Antonelli secured his maiden world title in Mexico City, leaving four rounds in the season.

Mercedes is now close to a constructors’ championship win, while the fight for second place in the drivers’ standings remains open. The remaining races also offer opportunities for Red Bull, McLaren and Cadillac.

Mercedes on the Brink of Its First Constructors’ F1 Title Since 2021

Mercedes is close to winning its first constructors’ championship since 2021. The team has enjoyed a strong 2026 campaign, with Antonelli and George Russell delivering consistent results.

Following the Mexican Grand Prix, Mercedes leads the constructors’ standings with 630 points. Ferrari sits second with 504 points, leaving a 126-point gap between the two teams.

Mercedes can secure the championship at the 2026 Brazilian Grand Prix by outscoring Ferrari by at least three points. If it misses that opportunity, the team will have further chances in Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi.

With the drivers’ championship already secured, winning the constructors’ title would complete a successful season for Toto Wolff’s team.

Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, George Russell and Charles Leclerc Fight for Second

With the championship decided, the fight for second place is now one of the biggest individual contests in Formula 1. Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, George Russell and Charles Leclerc are separated by just 16 points.

Verstappen leads this group with 261 points, followed by Hamilton on 259. Russell has 250 points, while Leclerc has collected 245.

Verstappen has won three of the last four races, giving him an advantage heading into the final rounds. However, Hamilton is only two points behind him and will be looking to finish his first season with Ferrari strongly.

Russell and Leclerc also remain close enough to challenge for second. Their results in the remaining races will determine the final standings.

Lando Norris is sixth with 221 points, 40 behind Verstappen. This leaves him with a much bigger gap to overcome if he wants to join the battle for second.

Red Bull and McLaren Battle for Third in the F1 Constructors’ Standings

Red Bull Racing and McLaren are fighting for third place in the constructors’ championship. Unlike the battle at the top, this contest could go all the way to the final race.

Red Bull currently holds third place with 382 points, while McLaren has 365. The difference is just 17 points, giving both teams a realistic opportunity to finish ahead of the other.

Max Verstappen has been responsible for much of Red Bull’s recent progress, particularly with his three victories in the last four races. Meanwhile, McLaren will depend on Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri to close the gap.

Both teams need strong results from their drivers to secure third place. With four rounds remaining, neither can afford to lose valuable points.

Can Cadillac Score Its First Point in Its Debut F1 Season?

Cadillac has one major target left in its debut Formula 1 season: scoring its first championship point.

The American team has yet to finish inside the top 10 with either Valtteri Bottas or Sergio Perez. Following the Mexican Grand Prix, Cadillac remains at the bottom of the constructors’ standings with zero points.

Its debut campaign has been challenging, with the team still working to establish itself against more experienced competitors. However, the remaining races offer further opportunities for them to secure their first points finish.

A top-10 result would be an important milestone for Cadillac and give the team something positive to build on heading into 2027.
