This Is How Mercedes Could Complete F1 Championship Double at Brazilian GP in Sao Paulo
Heading into the Sao Paulo GP in Brazil, Mercedes has the opportunity to claim the 2026 constructors’ championship, having already taken the drivers’ title via Kimi Antonelli last week. Currently leading the standings with a margin of 126 points, the Silver Arrows need to outscore Ferrari by three points to secure the crown.
As such, the best scenario the German team would be hoping for in Interlagos would be a one-two finish. Should that be the case, Ferrari’s finishing positions would be of no consequence, as Mercedes will be guaranteed the title.

In case a Ferrari or any other team splits them, a one-three or a one-four finish would guarantee the team the three-point advantage they need when leaving Brazil. Given just 129 points remain after the Sao Paulo race, the Silver Arrows will be crowned champions.
Notably, the only way that the fight can continue at the Las Vegas GP is if both Mercedes cars miss a points finish, or gain less than three points on Ferrari in Brazil. However, even that comes with the caveat that the Qatar and Abu Dhabi races go on as planned. Otherwise, Mercedes are already the constructors’ champions.
Toto Wolff Talks About Mercedes’ Championship Bid in Brazil
If all the races go ahead as planned, Mercedes will have three more opportunities after Brazil to secure the championship for themselves and seal their first double championship in six years. But the team will want to achieve it at the earliest, and Toto Wolff feels that simply thinking about winning won’t do anything.

With the championship moving closer, simply thinking about a positive outcome is of no use to the Brackley-based outfit. Therefore, the mindset shall remain an aggressive one for the team.
They aim to “stay disciplined” and take each session as it comes, concentrating on doing all the fundamentals as well as they can. The aggressive mindset doesn’t rely solely on the two drivers, but it also has a lot to do with the team’s reserve driver.
Fred Vesti, who took over George Russell‘s car for the Mexican GP FP1, is also an equally important element in the eyes of Wolff. The team relies heavily on him to deliver precise information and feedback, which can be used to improve the Mercedes challenger.
How a Tech Stack Is Helping Mercedes Push for the Win
Away from all the practices, sim runs, setup experiments, and pure driving skills, a key element behind a team’s success is a constantly evolving tech stack known as ‘SAP’. A key enabler of team performance, SAP is a record of system processes, costs, procurement, manufacturing, and operations. It also provides foundational data that supports most decisions across an organization.

Dean Corcoran, Head of ERP, IT at the Mercedes F1 team, revealed that during the mid-season upgrades, the S/4HANA software also received a key update, allowing the team to capitalize on their season roadmap with the help of AI integration.
Having understood exactly where they would see the impact of migration and upgrades, Mercedes used the software to land on an optimal implementation and testing plan. With precise timings and staffing requirements at their disposal, the final phase was to execute everything with excellence.
