F2 championship leader Rafael Camara is unlikely to return to the feeder series following his F1 debut at the Brazilian Grand Prix this week, according to veteran journalist Adam Cooper. The Brazilian driver will make his F1 debut in front of his home crowd, replacing Esteban Ocon at Haas earlier than scheduled.

“Hearing that Rafael Camara is unlikely to return to F2 for the end-of-season races to defend his lead,” Cooper reported.

Camara currently leads the F2 championship by seven points over Red Bull junior Nikola Tsolov, who could have a strong chance of claiming the title in Camara’s absence. This could work well for the Hungarian driver in his own pursuit of an F1 seat in 2027, with Red Bull still to confirm who will drive for Racing Bulls next year.

Camara has no such issues, as Haas has already announced him as Ocon’s replacement for 2027. But the Ferrari junior will now get into the car five races earlier than originally scheduled. It remains to be seen if he will drive all the remaining five races in 2026.

Haas Issues Statement Confirming Esteban Ocon’s Exit

Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu shared a statement on Wednesday confirming that Ocon will not return to the team following his sudden exit in the middle of the Mexican GP weekend. He explained that this decision was not ‘made lightly’, while refusing to share the conversation that was held between himself and the 30-year-old in Mexico last week.

“We have now notified Esteban Ocon that he will not return to a race seat with Haas this season. Such decisions are never made lightly, as was the case in Mexico City – but then, as now, we feel this is firmly in the best interest of the team moving forward,” said Komatsu.

“The conversations that ultimately unfolded between the team and Esteban remain an internal matter, and we will continue to respect the private nature of closed-door situations,” he added.

While it remains uncertain who will drive the second Haas car in all of the remaining races in 2026, it is now confirmed that Ocon will not be returning to finish the season. The Frenchman is also without a race seat for 2027, meaning his fans are unlikely to see him behind the wheel of an F1 car anytime soon.

Haas Boss ‘Looking Forward’ to Rafael Camara Making Debut at the Brazilian GP

Komatsu has also claimed that the Haas team is looking forward to welcoming Camara into the setup at the Brazilian GP this weekend, explaining that he knows how capable the 21-year-old is behind the wheel.

“Looking ahead, we’ve chosen Rafael Camara to drive alongside Oliver Bearman at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Having excelled in his TPC outing in August, we know Rafa’s capabilities and we’re looking forward to welcoming him into the team this weekend and working with him through his F1 debut,” said Komatsu.

Camara earned the Haas seat following a TPC (Testing of Previous Cars) test in August, during which he went up against Japanese driver Ryo Hirakawa, former Alpine driver Jack Doohan and McLaren academy driver and the 2025 F2 champion Leonardo Fornaroli for the Haas seat.
