In the glorious peaks of Formula 1, there are drivers who are only able to capture a few podiums. If some are lucky, then they manage to grab a race win. And then, there are those who not only win multiple races but even multiple world titles. Purely, depending on whom do you support and who is your idol, Formula 1 can actually confront popular beliefs and challenge existing ones. So much so that the definition for lucky and for those who can’t manage to punch above their weight keeps on changing.

Take for instance the case of Nico Hülkenberg, who, despite such tremendous talent and experience hasn’t been able to stand on a single F1 podium ever (as on date) but is still contesting in F1. Not that the man described as the Hulk isn’t a good lad, but there are quite a few who aren’t perhaps as fortunate as the German driver to be even having a seat in the echelons of Formula 1.

And there are drivers of the class and repute of Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen, for whom winning seems some inveterate habit of sorts. Isn’t it? How else would one even put it, don’t you think?

Besides having Red Bull has the common drive for themselves, both Verstappen and Vettel are, at present, tied on the same number of driver’s world titles. The Dutchman considered ‘Mad Max’ by some and a mercurial, infallible talent according to so many others is about as talented as they come. Ditto for Sebastian Vettel, who in his prime days was winning left, right and centre and leaving little to chance.

Today, both drivers, one a current force of the sport and another, an all-time great are tied on four drivers’ titles each and it’s here where a former F1 driver has remarked and offered insight as to who happens to be a better driver of the duo.

So the big question is who is this former F1 driver who has recently stated that in the current annals of F1 racing, Max Verstappen is a step ‘ahead’ of Sebastian Vettel, winners of the season 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.

The answer is Belgium’s Stoffel Vandoorne who believes that Max Verstappen is even ahead of Sebastian Vettel. And that there’s a clear gap between the two, or so Vandoorne alluded to.

Here’s an excerpt from a recent media interaction from the end of Stoffel Vandoorne:

I think Max is now a step ahead of Vettel,” he said to Formule1.nl. “Of course, every year is different, every championship too. But if you see how Max wins that title this season, just like in his first season: very special.”

Having said that, what would you reckon? Is Vettel the better driver of the two or do you think that the way the Dutch driver is contesting in the current era of F1, none can stand a chance?
