What is Carlos Sainz’s record like at the Dutch Grand Prix?

Carlos Sainz Jr. has been in the news most recently alongside his Williams teammate, Alexander Albon. The duo have re-signed with Williams to further extend their current contract. For the Madrid-born driver, it puts an end to the rumours that had been circulating across social media, painting a narrative that the driver would be Audi-bound in the near future, though it never came to pass.

We have got a race on our hands, too, and one that could indeed be a memorable one. The fast-approaching 2026 Dutch Grand Prix is being keenly anticipated. In what’ll be the last running of the event, all eyes are fixed on Zandvoort in terms of all that it can bring.

If you’re curious as to just what Carlos Sainz’s record has been like at the Dutch Grand Prix, then look no further, because F1 Chronicle has that covered for you.

First up, though, let us recollect what happened to Sainz the last time he raced at the Dutch Grand Prix, a year ago.

Sainz at Zandvoort in 2025

Sainz started the race 9th and was running in 8th after Lewis Hamilton crashed. The Williams driver was then fighting Liam Lawson for 7th place on Lap 27. The battling duo of Sainz and Lawson went side-by-side into Turn 1. That is when the Kiwi driver Lawson moved across and the two cars made contact.

The contact caused Sainz to suffer a tyre puncture, forcing him to pit. It was an unfortunate event that should never really have happened.

Regardless, that extra pit stop dropped him right to the back of the field, and he was eventually a lap down.

Despite that, Sainz fought back to finish 13th.

It was a valiant recovery in the end but one that didn’t help the driver’s cause as it led to no points, whatsoever.

The incident also resulted in a 10-second penalty for Sainz. That penalty stood on the day, though the penalty points attached to it were later rescinded on appeal in September 2025 after stewards reviewed new onboard footage and ruled it a racing incident, with his 13th-place finish unaffected.

It cost him a potential top-five finish too, as he had been in a strong position before the puncture.

So, Sainz was having a promising race and was on course for a strong points finish, but contact with Lawson caused a puncture and ruined his race.

Now, let us jump into the main Carlos Sainz stats at Zandvoort, the quintessential home of the Dutch Grand Prix:

Carlos Sainz at Zandvoort, as of today:

What is Carlos Sainz’s best result here: P5! The 5th place, which he has achieved twice, once in 2023 and again in 2024.

How many times has Sainz finished in points at the venue? The Spaniard has finished in points on 4 occasions out of his five Dutch GP starts. He scored in 2021 (7th), 2022 (8th), 2023 (5th) and 2024 (5th).

How many DNFs has Sainz had at Zandvoort? None! 0! He has finished every Dutch GP he has started.

Which is the only time that Sainz didn’t finish in points at the Dutch GP? 2025! He finished 13th, so that was his only Dutch GP without points.

Sainz has raced five times at Zandvoort, with a best finish of fifth, four points-scoring finishes and no DNFs.

Can Carlos get back to his point-scoring habit at a track where, barring last year’s result, he’s often picked up hard-earned points? We shall have to wait and see.
