McLaren Celebrates Championship Success and Sustainability Milestones in 2025 Report
Achieving the championship double last year, with Lando Norris delivering McLaren’s first drivers’ world title since Lewis Hamilton in 2008, McLaren Racing has added further gloss to its landmark season through several off-track achievements detailed in its 2025 Sustainability Report.
Among the highlights, McLaren pushed the boundaries of innovation through its climate initiative in partnership with the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, while also developing a roadmap toward building Formula 1’s first fully circular race car.
“As our sport continues to see incredible growth around the world, it is all the more important that we work hard to reduce our overall impact on the planet and the pressures of global resources,” McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown said of the team’s achievements.
OSCAR (Operational System for Coral Assembly and Restoration) represents a striking application of motorsport expertise to environmental conservation, helping accelerate coral restoration efforts on the Great Barrier Reef. The project aims to increase annual coral planting capacity from 100,000 to one million.
“It’s fantastic to see our McLaren Accelerator team apply motorsport know-how to other industries to help supercharge processes and drive efficiencies, with our engineers working alongside marine biologists to find solutions in coral restoration,” Brown added.
With Formula 1 targeting Net Zero Carbon by 2030, McLaren is also pioneering sustainability from a team perspective through its Circular F1 Car roadmap. The initiative harnesses technology from key partners including Deloitte and Google, with the goal of creating more sustainably built race cars for the future.
Currently, McLaren reports a 22% circularity score in the production of its F1 chassis through the use of recycled metals, bio-derived materials, waste recycling, and hazardous liquid recycling.
The report also detailed a 39% reduction in operational emissions compared to the baseline, with travel-related emissions seeing the greatest improvement through a 62% decrease. This has largely been achieved through expanded investment in Sustainable Aviation Fuel certificates (SAFc) in partnership with Ecolab, covering 100% of business travel emissions and F1 charter logistics — equivalent to 1.1 million US gallons of fuel.
Kim Wilson, Director of Sustainability at McLaren Racing, said: “what I’m most proud of in 2025 is seeing the way McLaren Racing’s performance mindset has translated into real sustainability progress.”

“Over the last year, we covered 100% of aviation emissions from business travel and F1 charter logistics with SAFc, maintained 22% circularity in F1 car production, and I saw first-hand the impact of Accelerator’s work with Great Barrier Reef Foundation, in helping to increase the speed of coral reef restoration tenfold through OSCAR.”
McLaren also strengthened its commitment to inclusion and diversity, continuing to expand pathways for women into STEM careers. The team reported that 44.8% of new hires in 2025 came from underrepresented groups.
That commitment has extended onto the track through the expansion of McLaren’s Driver Development Programme, including the signings of Ella Lloyd, Ella Stevens, and Ella Häkkinen. McLaren also announced a second entry into F1 Academy this year, becoming the only Formula 1 team supporting two female drivers in the junior series.
Both Brown and Wilson concluded by expressing excitement for the future while highlighting the collaborative culture within the team and the role of its partners in tackling the demands of a modern Formula 1 organisation.
“I’m proud of the progress we’ve made to date, and I’m excited about what’s next,” Brown said.
Wilson added: “For me, it’s not just about the results; it’s about what they show is possible when data, collaboration and marginal gains come together to drive faster progress on the challenges that matter most. Real progress doesn’t happen all at once – it comes from people working together, staying focused and continuing to find ways to do things better.”
McLaren will also celebrate its 1000th Grand Prix at the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix, marking more than 60 years of championship success and innovation, including 23 world championships and 200 Grand Prix victories.
