Williams Racing and its Principal Partner, Komatsu, have proudly announced the launch of the Komatsu-Williams Engineering Academy. This global initiative aims to identify and cultivate the brightest young engineering minds, providing them with unparalleled mentorship and support throughout their academic journey.

A Pathway to Engineering Excellence

Starting in 2025, the Academy will select ten exceptional STEM students to join its inaugural cohort. These students will receive a unique blend of practical experience, mentorship, and theoretical learning, all designed to accelerate their career development within the engineering and motorsport industries.

Selection Process and Benefits

The Academy’s first cohort will be selected in collaboration with F1 in Schools, a renowned non-profit organization dedicated to promoting STEM education. Students aged 16 and above attending the 2024 F1 in Schools World Final in Saudi Arabia will have the opportunity to apply for the Academy assessment center.

Successful applicants will enjoy a range of benefits, including:

  • Early career opportunities: Access to internships, apprenticeships, and graduate roles at Komatsu and Williams.
  • Mentorship: Quarterly sessions with Williams engineers for personalized guidance and industry insights.
  • Online learning: Access to educational modules and tasks related to Formula 1.
  • Exclusive experiences: Opportunities for networking and community building within both Williams and Komatsu.

The Academy’s curriculum will be tailored to each student’s educational level, ensuring they receive the most appropriate support and guidance.

Building on a Successful Legacy

The Komatsu-Williams Engineering Academy builds upon the success of previous Williams academies, which have produced numerous talented engineers. Three members of the last cohort, established in 2019, secured Industrial Placement opportunities at Williams, with two subsequently offered graduate roles in the Vehicle Design department.

A Commitment to STEM Education

Williams and Komatsu share a commitment to promoting STEM education and inspiring the next generation of engineers. In addition to the Academy, Williams operates a STEM education program that brings thousands of schoolchildren to their Grove HQ each year. Komatsu also invests in STEM initiatives globally, supporting local communities and empowering students.

The Komatsu-Williams Engineering Academy represents a significant step forward in nurturing young engineering talent. By providing exceptional opportunities and mentorship, the Academy aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the competitive world of engineering and motorsport.

James Vowles, Team Principal, Williams Racing:

“I’m pleased that we’re launching the Komatsu-Williams Engineering Academy because discovering and developing the brightest and best talent regardless of background is something I hold close to my heart.

“We have a duty and responsibility to invest in future generations and support them to succeed. I know how powerful that can be as someone who was given a chance at the start of my career.

“This Academy will help both Williams and Komatsu find the future talent that will form the bedrock of our organisations, and is another demonstration of the beliefs we both share.”
