F1 reveals 2027 calendar as Sprint races increase from six to 10

• Formula 1 will expand its Sprint format from six to 10 events in 2027, with Monaco and Australia among the additions to the 24-Grand Prix calendar.
• Bahrain will open the 2027 season following an extended four-day pre-season test, while Saudi Arabia returns alongside Portugal and Türkiye on the calendar.
• The 2027 schedule will conclude in Abu Dhabi from December 10-12, with Sprint weekends bookending a season spanning 24 Grands Prix across five continents.

The number of Sprint races on the Formula 1 calendar will increase to 10 in 2027, as the sport and the FIA announce their 24-Grand Prix schedule for the upcoming season.

Among the return of Middle Eastern races that were cancelled for 2026 due to ongoing conflict in the region, the biggest surprise of the calendar reveal was the increase in Sprints from six to 10 – with the likes of Monaco and Australia joining the fray.

Pre-season testing is set to take place in Bahrain from February 24-27, with an extra day allocated to cater for adjustments made to the power-unit regulations en route to achieving a 60/40 split between the internal combustion engine and battery.

Bahrain will also host the season opener, holding its own Sprint race for the first time. That will be followed by the return of Saudi Arabia and then the Australian Grand Prix – which hosted the opening race of the previous two seasons.

Miami and Canada continue to be twinned, following the Japan and China leg of the championship. Portugal returns in June following the Monaco Grand Prix, while Türkiye also returns in October between Azerbaijan and Singapore.

The season will conclude in Abu Dhabi from December 10-12, with Sprint weekends set to bookend the 2027 campaign.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem reflected on the combination of tradition and fan engagement offered by the new calendar.

“The 2027 FIA Formula One World Championship calendar is a strong reflection of the global appeal and continued growth of our sport,” said the Emirati.

“With twenty-four Grands Prix across five continents, the return of Portugal and Türkiye, and the opportunity for an expanded Sprint programme, the calendar combines tradition, innovation, and fan engagement while maintaining the highest sporting standards.”

Meanwhile, Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali highlighted the sustainability goals F1 is working towards and the importance of the calendar’s geographical flow in achieving them.

“The 2027 calendar brings together some of the most iconic circuits and vibrant cities in the world, creating an incredible stage for another unforgettable season of Formula 1,” said Domenicali.

“We are thrilled to welcome Portugal and Türkiye to the championship and to expand Sprint racing to ten events, giving our fans even more intensity, drama, and the wheel-to-wheel action that make our sport so special.
