Dutch Grand Prix: Key Records and Stats

Ever since its Formula 1 debut in 1952 until the most recent iteration, the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort has been an action-packed, closely watched and exciting contest on the F1 calendar. Even after the event disappeared from the roster from 1985 until 2021, the comeback of the Dutch Grand Prix has been laced with constant action and a barrage of entertainment.

From the great Jim Clark’s dominance in the 1960s to the multiple world champion Max Verstappen’s modern-day home heroics, Zandvoort has been home to several records that have become part of F1 history.

At F1 Chronicle, we look back at some of the memorable records created at a fast circuit known for its impactful racing and banked corners.

Most wins by a driver

The great Jim Clark holds the record of being the most successful driver at Zandvoort, with four Dutch Grand Prix victories. The legendary Briton triumphed in 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1967.

Most wins by a team

The Scuderia stable has been the most prolific team at this famous venue among all competitors on the grid. Ferrari leads the way among constructors with eight victories at Zandvoort. The Scuderia’s success at the historic Dutch circuit stretches across several decades. Can it pull out a win this year amid a McLaren resurgence with Mercedes in imposing form?

Most pole positions

When it comes to the record for scoring the most poles at the Dutch Grand Prix, the honour is shared by two great drivers. Red Bull legend Max Verstappen and noted French driver from back in the day, René Arnoux, share the record for the most pole positions at the Dutch Grand Prix, with three each. Verstappen’s three poles at his home circuit came during his dominant spell after Zandvoort returned to the calendar.

Consecutive home wins

A record that underlines sheer dominance at a track that’s home to one of modern Formula 1’s most talented and exasperating talents, ever. Max Verstappen created a special piece of home history by winning three consecutive Dutch Grands Prix from 2021 to 2023. So dominant was he in that time that despite coming in close competition from a resurgent and rampant McLaren, there’s not much that his rivals could do to curb the Max-attack at Zandvoort! The run made the Red Bull driver the undisputed king of Zandvoort in the circuit’s modern era.

Fastest race lap

You simply can’t keep Sir Lewis Hamilton away from the hold of world records, can you? The British great holds the fastest race lap recorded at Zandvoort, clocking 1:11.097 during the 2021 Dutch Grand Prix. It remains one of the circuit’s benchmark race laps. Hamilton enjoyed a memorable time while driving for his former Mercedes team. The big question for now is whether the seven-time world champion can demonstrate something brilliant in a Ferrari this time around?

Fastest qualifying lap

McLaren’s young talent Oscar Piastri set the qualifying lap record at Zandvoort in 2025, stopping the clock at 1:08.662. It underlined just how quickly modern F1 machinery can negotiate the demanding circuit. But with Kimi Antonelli demonstrating sheer blitz for much of this year, can the young Australian curb the Mercedes driver’s charge this time around?

Most overtakes in a race

Looking back at the noted venue, it has to be said that the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix was a truly unforgettable contest right down to the final corner. But why’s that? The 2023 Dutch Grand Prix produced a remarkable 186 overtakes, setting what’s widely reported as an all-time F1 record for overtakes in a single race. The wet-and-dry conditions turned Zandvoort into a tactical spectacle.

Nine consecutive race wins

Verstappen’s victory at Zandvoort in 2023 was his ninth consecutive Formula 1 win. It saw him equal Sebastian Vettel’s record streak of nine straight victories, achieved a decade earlier. With 2026 being the last Dutch Grand Prix given the race is being retired from the calendar, one hopes to see an exciting slugfest of speed at Zandvoort one more time. Can this produce a belter of a race that’ll be remembered for years to come?
