What Are Guenther Steiner’s Chances Of Returning To F1?
Despite his much-talked-about Haas departure where he was the key team principal, it wasn’t as though Guenther Steiner completely disappeared from the world of Formula 1 racing. Under his close watch, Haas rose in their game in the 2023 and the 2022 world championship rounds and gave tough fight to the likes of Alfa Romeo and Williams, its closest rivals towards the back of the grid.
But the biggest question in the wake of Guenther Steiner’s departure from the fast-paced world of F1 racing was whether he would recede to a total exit from the public eye or if he would, at least in some capacity, continue to be associated with the highest form of Motor Racing?
To that end, the latter came true. Not only did one see Steiner, known for talking straight from the heart and pulling no punches, as the conductor of the post-race interviews for the 2024 Australian Grand Prix, but he even became the ambassador for the Miami Grand Prix (yet another race aced by Max Verstappen).
But now, with four rounds done and complete and with the racing world closely following the start of the first-ever Chinese Grand Prix since the year 2019, the big question once again concerns that man again: Guenther Steiner.
While there are no confirmed news reports as yet, there is sufficient talk around the paddock and off it that if all goes well, then soon one could see the man known for his wit and quip making a returning to the sport is life revolves around.
That being said, what are the plausible chances of seeing a close friend of Gene Haas returning to the F1 world?
Many are asking whether Steiner has already planned to make a move with regard to capturing a stake in any F1 team, possibly a new entrant. At the same time, there are some who are wondering if he has already approached and readied an investor in such time to mark his F1 comeback.
But while these could, at best, only be conjectures, the following is what the Merano, Italy-born happened to share in the public domain:
“I’ve spent so many years in F1 that I want to do more than just participate and score points every once in a while. I want to really compete and try to win. I’m not going to come back just to run a team if I don’t have that opportunity.”
The reports that are currently talking about a high profile Guenther Steiner comeback are linking him to the Red Bull junior team, which in its present capacity, is undergoing a sort of a rebirth of sorts.
What might happen in the future is something none know and can only predict. Will we see the 59-year-old returning to the paddock anytime soon, which would be not before the 2025 season, if at all? There’s no certainty just yet.
