Alpine F1 Team Race Into STEM Through Minecraft Education
BWT Alpine Formula One Team and its Official Partner Microsoft continue their Race into STEM initiative with the addition of a Minecraft Education world.
The Race into STEM programme aims to promote gender diversity in the world of motorsport and provide highly educational content to all young people through specially organised events and activations as part of the partnership between Alpine and Microsoft. Several have already taken place in Mexico City, London, Melbourne and France, all with the aim of involving and inspiring young women towards STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and the careers associated with it.
The Minecraft Education Race into STEM world represents a new milestone for the team and Microsoft. The game is set in a stunning 8-bit recreation of the BWT Alpine Formula One Team factory in Enstone, Oxfordshire, UK. Players can explore the facility and learn all about the creation and operation of a modern Formula 1 car.
They can also meet female employees who will explain their jobs in the team and the key concepts of the single-seater. Members of the management team, including Dalia Ramos Guerra, Head of Construction and Testing, and Gemma Lang, Financial Director, will help them to understand the importance of their role in Formula 1.
Game activities include testing a car in a wind tunnel or participating in a pit stop.
So far, over 100 students have taken part in the events and the Race into STEM digital platform has received over 80,000 visits from 99 countries. Available online for free worldwide, it includes a curriculum created by FIA Girls on Track UK and videos of BWT Alpine Formula One Team employees, some of whom appear in the mini-game.
The team invited Middle Barton Primary School in Enstone to give pupils a first look at the new Minecraft Education world before an exclusive factory tour. Pupils were given the chance to learn from the in-game collaborators during a Q&A session, including Dalia, Gemma and aerodynamicist Paula Garcia Ruiz.
The Minecraft Education Race into STEM world is now available on the Minecraft Education website via Race into STEM with Microsoft | Minecraft Education. Visit education.minecraft.net for more information.
