There are teams that progress in the highest annals of Grand Prix Racing at snail’s pace. Then there are those that progress at a steady pace. For instance, think of how Williams, the once perennial back markers of the sport in the last half a decade, did so well in the 2023 F1 season. And then, there are F1 teams that actually progress and move further close to the front of the grid at accelerated pace.

Probably, fair to say that Aston Martin loom large in this category, and it is a coveted one at that.

No lame speak this.

If you happen to cast your mind and recall just where the team stood at the conclusion of the 2021 F1 season, then the Constructors standing revealed a glaring truth. And it was that Aston Martin had managed no more than 77 points and thus occupied the P7 spot on the table. A year later, with Fernando Alonso still to join the ranks and Vettel, a four time world champion in his final season with the team as also in the sport, about to leave, the team still stood seventh on the Constructors.

But their overall points tally stood at a not-so-alluring 55. As a matter of fact, that very season, Aston Martin tied with Alfa Romeo, the latter P6 on the standings, as far the overall points were concerned.

But then things began to change a drastic turn and for the better when usual driver Lance Stroll found himself a new partner: a giant called Fernando Alonso.

The double F1 world champion scored five consecutive podiums on the trot for the famed British team. And akin to 007, the land of the famous undercover British operative, Aston Martin aligned flair and power to undertake a combat mission of sorts in 2023, where it seemed that Alonso had the licence to thrill.

Little wonder then that he stood fourth in the end on the Driver Rankings and scored, lest it is forgotten, 206 points, which were more than both Ferrari drivers- Leclerc and Sainz’s tally.

This year, therefore, Aston Martin, have come out with a blaring and not so complicated call to action of sorts. Their mantra for the 2024 F1 season is called “Hyper Focus”.

It is truly visible that the team aren’t here to just make up the points; they are here to combine grit and passion for racing to deliver results; a sort of philosophy that only Hyper Focus can help achieve.

Interestingly, Fernando Alonso, at the back of his team’s Hyper Focus announcement, has called for total dedication to the team’s cause; the Silverstone-based outfit is likely to take a stronger fight to Mercedes and McLaren than they did the last year.

And that they have in Alonso, a titan of racing, someone who earned them each of their 8 F1 2023 podiums will definitely come in handy.

What do you reckon?
