Ferrari boss Frederic Vasseur isn’t ready to crank up the V10 hype. “It is still too early to talk about what engine regulations we will have from 2031,” he said, cooling buzz about naturally-aspirated screamers returning to Formula 1. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali and FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem have both teased ditching the hybrid era, but Vasseur’s keeping his eyes on the road ahead.

The sport ditched loud, un-turbocharged mills after 2013, leaning into quieter, electric-heavy power units—set to double down in 2026. Red Bull’s Christian Horner, deep in a Ford-backed engine build for next year, can’t resist the old sound. “The pure racing fan in me would love to see a return to V10 engines, if it were done responsibly and with sustainable fuel,” he said.

Vasseur’s not biting. “We have not yet introduced the next generation of engines and there are still some huge issues on the table in this regard,” he said. “We should focus on that first.” The Frenchman’s got 2026 on his mind, not 2030’s noise levels. “I am sure that discussions about the future will come, but for now we should focus on the next step in engine development.”
