Ralf Schumacher Escapes Unscathed as Aviation Mishap Triggers Emergency Services Intervention
Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher has escaped unhurt following a nearly disastrous moment as his plane saw an aborted takeoff on Wednesday. He shared that one of the tires of his Lufthansa plane blew up while at high speed, leading to the pilot aborting the takeoff at Frankfurt Airport in Germany.
“We were already on the runway, at full speed, and then one of the two front tires burst. Then, of course, there was an emergency stop here in Frankfurt at the airport. The braking was very hard,” Schumacher shared in a social media video on Wednesday.
The incident occurred as Schumacher was on flight LH1264 on an Airbus A320, en route from Frankfurt to Salzburg, Austria, where the former Williams driver now lives. The plane was scheduled to depart at 4:15 PM, but was canceled following the aborted takeoff.
The aircraft then stayed on the tarmac for around half an hour before it was taken back to the terminal and the passengers were able to get off. Lufthansa confirmed that none of the 153 passengers and crew onboard suffered any injuries following the mishap. The German company also apologized to its passengers for the accident.
Ralf Schumacher Shares More Details From His Scary Experience in Frankfurt

Expanding on his experience of being inside the Lufthansa flight as takeoff was aborted on Wednesday, Schumacher shared that following the incident, the fire department and other security forces showed up.
“Police, fire brigade, and all sorts of other emergency services arrived, of course,” Schumacher said.
Schumacher added that he and the other passengers felt the full brunt of the heavy braking done by the pilot to stop the plane following the incident. He claimed that the brakes and tires were so hot that the authorities had to wait before towing the plane back to the terminal.
Ralf Schumacher Praises Airline and Crew Following Takeoff Emergency

Schumacher also praised the crew on his flight following the aborted takeoff, saying that they did a ‘great job’ in a difficult moment. He also thanked Lufthansa for its handling of the situation, as the passengers were immediately rebooked for other flights after the incident.
“The crew did a great job. Everything was very, very good,” said Schumacher.
“A big thank you to Lufthansa. It was great how they handled things for us. The way we were welcomed and immediately rebooked, everything was just perfect. Thanks!” he added.

Schumacher also made a joke following the incident, saying that he might miss dinner back home after his travels were naturally delayed by over three hours, but he was fine with this outcome.
