Mick Schumacher has emerged as a potential leading candidate to make the leap into Indycar for 2025.

The 25-year-old son of Michael Schumacher has yet to write off his goal of returning to Formula 1, currently splitting his time between the world endurance championship with Alpine and his F1 reserve duties at Mercedes.

However, it has just been announced that Prema Racing, a top Italian Formula 2 and F3 outfit, will enter Indycar next year with a full two-car operation.

In F2, Prema currently runs the impressive duo of Oliver Bearman alongside Kimi Antonelli – but Schumacher also drove for the team in the past, winning both his F2 and F3 titles with the Veneto-based outfit.

“When Prema joins a championship, it is not to make up the numbers,” said team boss Rene Rosin.

According to France’s Auto Hebdo, Prema is currently planning to team up with an experienced Indycar driver for 2025, who will be paired with a new driver to the category who has risen through the European racing ranks.

Schumacher would seem to be an ideal contender.

“He has never hidden his ambition to return to single seaters,” reports correspondent Gonzalo Forbes. “The German could unite with the Rosin clan again for a possible return to service in Indycar in 2025.”
