Kimi Antonelli’s father Marco has turned down an offer from the Prince of Monaco, Albert II, for his son to move to the Principality. Marco has clarified that Kimi and the whole Antonelli family are happy staying in San Marino, as it is “an excellent overall compromise for a Formula 1 driver.”

It is commonplace for F1 drivers to move to Monaco once they find their feet in the sport. The Principality does not levy personal income tax, capital gains tax, or wealth tax on its residents, meaning the athletes get to keep a bigger chunk of their salaries in their pockets. Over the years, it has also become the hub for high-net-worth individuals, creating a community.

But the current F1 championship leader, Antonelli, does not live in Monaco. The Italian instead chose another tax haven, San Marino. The Republic also has favorable tax rules for foreign citizens who earn their money abroad. For Antonelli personally, it is also only a two-hour drive away from his hometown, Bologna, as San Marino is completely landlocked by Italy.

But in a recent interview with Italian outlet Corriere della Sera, Prince Albert II of Monaco claimed that Antonelli “also wants to move to Monaco.” This was met with a swift response from Antonelli’s father Marco, who denied the claims.

Marco also explained that his and his family’s ties with San Marino go deeper than just Kimi living there, as he also has other business ventures there. His racing team, AKM Motorsport, is also based out of San Marino.

San Marino’s secretary of state for sports, Rossano Fabbri, has said that Antonelli’s achievements in F1 have had a “profound and identity-related” significance for San Marino. He also shared that the F1 star has obtained his road license in the Republic.

Fabbri has also shared that Antonelli himself chose to live in the Monte Titano region of the country. The 51-year-old has added that the Italian driver brings immense value to San Marino.

Antonelli, who has even become the country’s sports ambassador, can become the 2026 F1 drivers’ champion at the upcoming Mexican Grand Prix. If he does so, he will become the youngest-ever world champion in the sport’s history.

Kimi Antonelli Will Not Take Racing Number 1 if He Wins 2026 World Championship

Antonelli has said that he will most likely not take the number 1 if he wins the 2026 F1 World Championship. The young Italian wishes to stick with the number 12, which has special meaning for him.

“I’ll finish my job in Mexico first, then I’ll think about it. But I think I’ll stick with 12,” Antonelli told Swiss outlet Blick during an interview.

After missing out narrowly in Austin, Antonelli is in an extremely strong position to claim the Drivers’ championship in Mexico City. The Mercedes driver only needs to score two points to secure the title at the Mexican Grand Prix this weekend.

If George Russell wins the race, Antonelli only needs to finish ninth or higher, and if Lewis Hamilton wins the race, he only needs to finish 10th or higher. The 20-year-old will also claim the title if either of the aforementioned drivers doesn’t win the race, regardless of his finishing position.
