James Vowles Tells Logan Sargeant His F1 Career Is On The Ropes
Logan Sargeant’s tenure in Formula 1 appears increasingly uncertain, with speculation mounting that the American driver may not remain with Williams beyond 2024, and could possibly leave even sooner.
Rumors suggest that Toto Wolff’s teenage protégé, Kimi Antonelli, could replace the struggling Sargeant as early as the Monza Grand Prix. Another rumor indicates that Valtteri Bottas may have already signed to be Alex Albon’s new teammate for the 2025 season.
Williams boss James Vowles has openly acknowledged Sargeant’s precarious position within the team. “He’s on the ropes. His cockpit is in danger,” Vowles told Sky Deutschland after the race at Imola. “He has to deliver. I’m helping him on this journey because I want him to be successful. But in the meantime, we’re also talking to other drivers because we have to have our lineup ready for 2025, 2026, 2027. There will be news on that in a few weeks.”
Despite the pressure, Vowles insists that Sargeant will not learn about any decisions regarding his seat through the media. “We had a frank conversation and it’s very difficult to do that,” Vowles admitted.
Former F1 driver Timo Glock has also weighed in on Sargeant’s situation, suggesting that his time in Formula 1 may be drawing to a close. “There was no way in which he stood out over the weekend,” Glock added.
As the season progresses, the pressure mounts on Sargeant to perform and secure his place in the high-pressure world of Formula 1.
