Jack Doohan’s Alpine Future Hangs by a Thread Amid Rising Pressure and Financial Lifeline
Jack Doohan’s rookie Formula 1 campaign with Alpine is teetering on the edge, as on-track struggles and mounting off-track pressures threaten his seat. Tasked with keeping pace with seasoned teammate Pierre Gasly, Doohan has so far fallen short, and with Franco Colapinto eagerly waiting in the wings, the Australian’s future is under serious threat.
Limited Time for Jack Doohan
Former F1 driver and pundit Johnny Herbert didn’t mince words when assessing Doohan’s situation:
“Unfortunately, it hasn’t gone well for Jack. Compared to Pierre Gasly, who’s been consistently strong, Jack hasn’t found the performance window he needs. The pressure seems to be overwhelming him, and the mistakes he’s making are damaging his career.”
Herbert also pointed to Flavio Briatore’s growing influence at Alpine. Briatore, known for his ruthlessness, is reportedly pushing for Colapinto’s promotion, despite the young driver’s rough patches last season:
“Flavio doesn’t hold emotional attachments. If he believes Colapinto can deliver, he won’t hesitate to make a change.”
Adding another layer of intrigue, Ralf Schumacher revealed that a €10-million sponsorship deal could prove pivotal in Doohan’s short-term survival.
Speaking on the Backstage Pit Lane podcast, Schumacher said:
“I wouldn’t call him a ‘Class C driver’ as Dr. Marko did, but it’s fair to say Jack isn’t currently showing the kind of performance you’d expect from a future world champion. He’s up against an established and supported teammate, and it shows.
If Colapinto’s backing doesn’t come through, Jack might sta, for now. I hear he has a €10-million sponsor lined up, and that’s not something Alpine can easily ignore.”
In a cutthroat environment where performance and politics intertwine, Doohan’s future may depend as much on financial muscle as it does on results. And with Flavio Briatore pulling the strings, anything could happen.
