Arvid Lindblad crashed out of the Mexican Grand Prix on Lap 60 after contact with Oscar Piastri at Turn 1. The Racing Bulls driver lost control of his car and hit the barriers, ending his race while he was in contention for points.
Formula 1 confirmed the incident, writing: “Arvid Lindblad is in the barriers, and reports he is ok.” As reported by RacingNews365, Lindblad escaped without injury, although his car suffered significant damage.
Stewards Investigate Arvid Lindblad and Oscar Piastri
The impact sent Lindblad’s car into the air before it slid across the track and hit the barrier opposite Turn 2. The Racing Bulls rookie managed to get out of his damaged car without assistance.
Piastri managed to continue, although his McLaren sustained damage. He later gave his account of the incident to the stewards, claiming that Lindblad moved under braking and left him with limited room during the attempted overtake.
The collision was subsequently investigated by the stewards, who reviewed the circumstances surrounding the contact. The incident also brought attention to the battle between the two drivers, as both were fighting for valuable positions before the late-race interruption.
Safety Car Deployed After Arvid Lindblad’s Crash
Race control brought out the Safety Car to give marshals time to recover Lindblad’s car and deal with the damaged barrier. With 12 laps remaining, the intervention brought the field closer together and changed the conditions for the drivers still competing.
The timing posed another challenge for those aiming for a strong finish. Drivers had to manage their tires during the neutralised period while preparing for the possibility of a late restart. It also gave the teams an opportunity to reassess their strategies for the final part of the race.
For Racing Bulls, the retirement meant losing a potential points finish after Lindblad had been competing inside the top 10. Meanwhile, Piastri remained in the race following the contact.

Although the crash ended the rookie’s Mexican GP, the official update confirmed that he was okay. His first in-race retirement therefore came after a heavy incident in the closing stages of the event.
Valtteri Bottas’ Crash Led to the Race Being Red Flagged
Earlier in the race, Valtteri Bottas suffered a heavy crash at Turn 1 on Lap 44 after an apparent front-left suspension failure at around 320 kph (199 mph). His Cadillac lost control under braking, spun and hit the TecPro barriers rear-first.
Race control initially deployed the Safety Car, then showed the red flag on the following lap to allow barrier repairs. The medical car and medical team attended the scene as Bottas remained in the cockpit for several minutes.

He eventually gave a thumbs-up, climbed out unaided, and was taken to the Medical Centre. Cadillac later confirmed he was released and was not injured.
