There’s definitely a case to be made for Jamie Chadwick being in Formula 1 one day. That case is strengthened with every passing race weekend in the W Series. Chadwick is double world champion in the all-female series and has won four out of the four races so far in 2022. You’d be extremely brave to bet against her earning a third crown this year.

The weather intervened in Silverstone once again for this race, but how did the ladies of the W Series fare? Here’s all the highlights.

A league of her own

Drama started before the lights going out, as Alice Powell stalled on the line from P3. She’d get going quickly enough to avoid starting from the back of the grid though, to her relief. Jamie Chadwick got a perfect start from pole and left the field in her wake. Powell challenged Emma Kimalainen for second, but couldn’t get past the Finn on lap one.

Powell would get by, but an infringement while overtaking on the formation lap landed her a stop/go penalty and sent her to the back of the field. Up front, Chadwick was four seconds ahead after just eight minutes. Marta Garcia was running in a decent points position, but lost her front wing and dropped to the back to join Powell.

Around halfway into the race, it began raining, but not around the whole circuit. Like FP1 in the F1, the section around Copse and Luffield was wet, but the pit-straight was dry. The racers stayed out on dry tyres, as it wasn’t worth changing for the inters yet.

Abbi Pulling put a move in on Kimalainen with a few laps to go, but the pair tagged and the Finn spun around. Pulling allowed Kimalainen past to re-overtake her, avoiding an almost certain penalty.

Nothing, as usual, could stop Chadwick, a fourth win from four races in 2022 sees her score a perfect 100 points from 100 available. Chadwick’s gap over Pulling in the championship is almost 50 points now.

Kimalainen got her first podium of the season by getting second, with Pulling producing another impressive display in third. Abbie Eaton scored her first points of the season in seventh, with Sarah Moore scoring a point for tenth on a great day for British female drivers.
