Alpine driver Fernando Alonso says more is to come from his Alpine team heading to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix.

Two-time Silverstone winner Alonso described the Northamptonshire circuit as a “real racer’s track,” as his team brings new floor and top body updates to Round 10 of the 2022 season.

Chief Technical Officer Pat Fry said: “Everyone at Enstone has been working incredibly hard to produce and deliver a reasonably big upgrade package in time for this race.”

Alpine have been working hard to close the gap on midfield leaders McLaren, who are currently fourth in the constructors’ championship, which they achieved in Canada two weeks ago by scoring points with both cars, despite a post-race penalty for Spaniard Alonso.

“The goal was to swing the momentum in the fight for fourth and we did just that,” said Frenchman Esteban Ocon, who leads his teammate Alonso by 21-points.

While Ocon, 25, has consistently scored points, 40-year-old Alonso bemoaned “reliability issues and very badly timed incidents and Safety Cars.”

Alonso has however, received three separate five second time penalties this season, including two in the Miami Grand Prix, which have cost him, and his team, eight points, which would see Alpine equal on 65-points with rivals McLaren.

Despite this setback, Ocon said: “I can feel the whole team looking forward to Silverstone, one of our two home races,” while Alonso added: “There’s more to come and we’ve seen the potential is there.

“I’m excited to see how we do over the coming races.”
